Mission

The Office of University Outreach and International Programs (UOIP) supports the Vision of Excellence through providing core academic leadership and coordination for UC Davis faculty, scholars, students, staff and alumni in two major academic scholarship functions:

  • International research, educational and academic outreach activities and programs
  • Continuing, distance and lifelong learning and academic engagement with the broader society

UOIP engages in a number of programs and activities that enhance faculty and student research, education and outreach including:

Established in 1998 under the direction of Vice Provost William B. Lacy, UOIP provides visionary leadership, management and collaborations to enhance the effectiveness of our direct report units and programs for achieving their goals and the goals of the campus.

Rankings and Awards

  • 6th among American universities in the number of international scholars (Open Doors 2009 Report on International Educational Exchange)
  • Awarded the 2009 Senator Paul Simon Spotlight Award for innovative international programs and initiatives in Cuba and Iran.
  • Awarded Fulbright Administrative Awards for Japan, Brazil and Korea
  • Awarded German Department of Education Summer Seminar for North American Education Administrators (DAAD).
Distinctions
  • Conducts workshops for academic and international funding opportunities (e.g. National Science Foundation, Fulbright, European Union)
  • Invested over $1,250,000 in 132 bold ideas for outreach and international programs in 45 countries, generating over $30,000,000 in external funding
  • Hosts the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program for 19 years (one of only 18 U.S. universities)
  • Created 30 international alumni networks on six continents
  • Publishes the Fully Engaged and Internationally Engaged newsletters to highlight the campus academic outreach and engagement and international activities
  • Hosts IREX Fellows, LEAP Interns and Kyoto Staff interns to promote staff advancement and exchange (sponsored by the Dept. of State, Japan Ministry, and UC Davis-Kyoto University)
  • Member of Association of Pacific Rim Universities
  • William B. Lacy is serving as President-elect of the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA), a national professional organization for senior-level administrators in international education
  • Supported over 150 UC Davis faculty and instructors to teach or lead education abroad courses
